Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?
One of the most common questions we hear at our Rathfarnham clinic is whether dental implants are an option for a particular patient. There’s no single answer — it depends on a few factors we assess at consultation rather than something you can judge from a quick look in the mirror.
What we assess
Jawbone density. Implants rely on the jawbone to fuse around a titanium post, so we start with imaging to check there’s enough bone to support one. If bone has reduced following a long-missing tooth, that doesn’t necessarily rule implants out — it just changes the plan.
Gum health. Healthy gums are a starting point for any implant treatment, so we’ll usually recommend addressing any gum disease first.
Overall health and habits. A few general health factors and habits like smoking can affect healing time, so we’ll talk through your medical history as part of the consultation.
What happens at a consultation
We keep the first visit low-pressure: an exam, a conversation about what you’re hoping to achieve, and imaging if needed. From there, we put together a personalised treatment plan and quote — there’s no obligation to proceed.
If you’ve been putting off asking about implants, the simplest next step is a conversation, not a decision. Get in touch and we’ll talk you through it.
